New York, 17 September -- The United Nations Secretary-General Today Introduced The Modernized Public Data And Statistics Portal Data.Un.Org : A Un System Data Commons That Will Give Users A Single Place To Discover, Explore And Use Public Data And Statistics From 26 Un System Entities. Users Can Search Across 44 Million Data Points Using Questions In Natural Language, Explore And Compare Trends Through Interactive Tools And Access Information Through Open Data Connectors That Also Make It Easier For Researchers, Developers And Artificial Intelligence (Ai) Systems To Work With Trusted Un System Data. Rather Than Replacing Existing Data Platforms, The Un System Data Commons Connects Them, Making The Wealth Of Our Collective Authoritative Data Easier To Discover And Use. The Un System Produces Some Of The WorldS Most Trusted Public Data. Yet, When That Information Is Dispersed Across Multiple Platforms, Its Full Value Is Not Always Realized. The Un System Data Commons Now Brings This Public Good Into One Place, Helping People Everywhere Turn Authoritative Data Into Better-Informed Decisions, Said Guy Ryder, Un Under-Secretary-General For Policy. Trusted Data For An Ai-Driven Information Ecosystem The Launch Comes At A Time When Demand For Reliable And Accessible Public Data Is Growing Rapidly. Artificial Intelligence Is Increasingly Becoming An Interface Through Which People Find And Interpret Information. But The Quality Of Ai-Generated Answers Depends In Part On Whether Authoritative Information Can Be Reliably Discovered And Traced Back To Its Source. By Making Official Statistics More Discoverable, Interoperable And Machine-Readable, The Un System Data Commons Makes Trusted Public Data Accessible Not Only To People, But Also To The Digital Tools And Ai Systems That Increasingly Support Research, Analysis And Decision-Making. From Searching For Data To Asking Questions The Un System Data Commons Also Changes How Users Can Interact With The Un SystemS Global Statistics. Instead Of Navigating Multiple Websites, Locating Individual Datasets And Working Across Different Formats, Users Can Ask Questions In Plain Language, Explore Information Across Themes, Compare Trends, Visualize Results And Access Underlying Data From A Shared Interface. For Example, A User Can Explore How Indicators Related To Poverty, Education, Health Or Climate Have Changed Across Countries And Over Time, Drawing On Data Published By Different Parts Of The Un System Without Having To Search Each Source Separately. Open Connectors Also Allow Researchers, Developers And Organizations To Link Un System Data Directly To Applications, Analytical Workflows And Ai Systems. Built Using The Data Commons -- An Open-Source Platform, The Site Launches With Commitments From 26 Un System Entities To Contribute Their Public Data. The Initiative Builds On Years Of Collaboration Among Un System Statistical Leaders And Data Experts And Has Been Accelerated By The Un80 Initiative, Which Emphasizes Technology As An Important Enabler Of A More Effective And Modern United Nations System. The Implementation Of The Un System Data Commons Is Supported Through A Un Foundation Grant, With Funding From Google.Org.
