Sber clients in Egypt can now pay by scanning a QR code using the SberBank Online app, with the purchase value automatically converted into rubles. From now on, Russian tourists can use their familiar banking app for everyday purchases while traveling. To make a payment, simply scan the QR code at the checkout or at an outlet that accepts such payments. Before confirming the transaction, the amount is displayed on the screen in both Egyptian pounds and Russian rubles. To make payments on Android and iOS, you need a version of the SberBank Online app released in June 2025 or later: version 16.10 or higher for Android, and version 17.0 or higher for iOS. You can check your app version by going to Settings - About the app. In Egypt, the infrastructure for QR code payments continues to expand. According to the countrys Central Bank, the number of locations accepting such payments reached approximately 1 million by the end of March 2026. The launch of this service comes against the backdrop of an increasing flow of tourists from Russia. In 2025, Egypt welcomed over 2 million Russian tourists. From January through September 25, 2026, that number grew by approximately 23% compared to the same period last year. Egypt has become the 14th country where Sber clients can make payments by scanning a QR code. The service is also available in other popular tourist destinations for Russians -- including Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines -- making travel even more convenient and comfortable.
