Rostelecom confirmed its leadership in the public Wi-Fi access market by the end of 2023. According to the analytical agency TMT Consulting, the company retained first place in the number of access points, increasing its market share to 36%, and also became the leader in revenue for the first time (44%).
In 2023, the Russian public Wi-Fi access market regained positive dynamics after a decline caused by sanctions. According to analysts, revenue from the service amounted to 4.4 billion rubles, which is 1.5% higher than at the end of 2022. The number of access points showed even greater growth - it increased by 7.7% and reached 205.8 thousand.
According to analysts, market dynamics were primarily influenced by the activation of corporate and government customers. Among the key consumers of services in the B2B segment are still the retail, banking sector and service sector enterprises - areas in which public wireless Internet is especially important for the quality of service. In the public sector, the ongoing digitalization of educational and medical institutions, libraries, public spaces and multifunctional centers played a significant role. Thus, Rostelecom implemented a number of large regional projects in 2023, for example, providing wireless Internet to 20 branches of Ingosstrakh Bank throughout the country and connecting universities in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug to the public Wi-Fi network. In total, the company services more than a third of public Wi-Fi spots throughout Russia.
