Chizhov First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.A joint meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security and the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs was held on the topic On the participation of the Russian Federation in the activities to maintain and restore international peace and security.The event which was held by First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Vladimir Chizhov was attended by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Bair Zhamsuev members of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Sergei Kolbin Sergei Bezdenezhnykh Margarita Pavlova . The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Vershinin representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia the Chief Military Prosecutors Office the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation members of the Expert Council under the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security.Opening the meeting Vladimir Chizhov noted that the importance of the issue under consideration is very relevant and obvious. It is important that it is discussed in the Federation Council where important proposals are often voiced which are then used by the executive branch to develop political and administrative decisions.Against the background of the Special Military Operation there are global changes in the contours of world and regional security. The high activity of Russias geopolitical competitors dictates the need to maintain our broad participation in peacekeeping operations and military presence in a number of strategically important regions of the world the senator said. He recalled that in the Foreign Policy Concept of Russia one of the main tasks of the foreign policy activity of our state is the promotion of a course towards maintaining strategic stability strengthening international peace and security.Currently Russia is opposed to Western hegemony aggressive liberalism NATO expansion the creation of new military blocs as well as the imposition of alien values on countries and peoples. Together with more than half a century of solid experience in participating in peacekeeping activities this strengthens Russias authority in the eyes of the countries and peoples that make up the global majority Vladimir Chizhov emphasized .Bair Zhamsuev Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs spoke about the role of Russian peacekeepers in the CIS space. In particular the issues of providing peacekeeping contingents for recruiting the collective CSTO Peacekeeping Forces the Joint Peacekeeping Forces in Pridnestrovie and in other regions of the world where peace and stability are ensured due to the presence of Russian peacekeepers were discussed.During the meeting those present discussed not only the participation of the Russian Federation in peacekeeping operations but also the problems and challenges that Russian peacekeepers face in their activities. Approaches to a possible response to the attempts of the collective West to exert pressure and create threats to their work are considered.The proposals made by the participants will be summarized and used in further legislative activities.
