π Tender Overview
MegaFon has analyzed the dynamics of M2M SIM card usage over the past five years. Mobile Internet for smart devices is used most intensively by organizations working in the housing and utilities sector, as well as industrial enterprises. The amount of such equipment in these areas has grown four and five times, respectively. And the average amount of traffic transmitted by one device has tripled.
Every year, the number of industrial gadgets with Internet access via SIM cards grows by an average of 18%, and in less than five years their number has doubled. The growing need for automation and the expansion of the Internet of Things have become the main drivers of growth in demand for M2M SIM cards. Smart devices collect and transmit data, exchange it with each other, help digitize production and replace manual labor.
The industry has demonstrated the greatest growth β more than 400%. The Internet of Things is used here to solve a wide range of problems: from monitoring the environmental situation to managing technological processes. In housing and communal services, the five-year growth was more than 300%, which is associated with the introduction of smart meters for utilities. It is noteworthy that one of the industries that has demonstrated stable growth is agriculture β an average of 9% annually. Modern technologies are used to monitor the state of the environment, control indicators, and remotely control processes on farms.
Over the past 5 years, the average amount of data transmitted by one device has tripled β from 550 MB to 1.5 GB, which is explained by the widespread use of smart video cameras. However, most industrial equipment (more than 92%) consumes less than 100 MB per month.
In Russia, M2M SIM cards are most common in the central part of the country (43% of the total). The technology is mainly used here to manage urban infrastructure ("Smart City", "Safe City"), housing and communal services, and monitor the environmental situation. Another 32% of SIM cards are in the Urals, Siberia, and the Far East. Here, with the help of smart devices, mechanical engineering and fleet management, mining operations are automated, and the operation of pipelines and remote fields is monitored.
M2M (Machine to Machine) is a technology that allows devices to exchange data and interact with each other without human intervention. Connecting such devices to mobile networks allows for automated data exchange in places where there is no wired network: on mobile objects and devices located outside the physical perimeter of the company. At the same time, the duration of a data transfer session in wireless networks is only 5 seconds, which is 4 times faster than transmission via cable.
The Internet of Things creates a global enterprise network infrastructure that includes many different devices. The microservice platform aggregates various data, analyzes it and predicts possible scenarios. This helps to digitalize processes and ensure timely response to changes, which improves the main business metrics of companies. The platform adapts to different tasks depending on the type of business and industry. Vertically integrated solutions have been developed for each industry: Smart Housing and Utilities, Eco-Monitoring, Personnel Control, Transport Control and Water Monitoring.
"In order to provide stable communication for both our subscribers and M2M devices, we are improving the mobile network, increasing capacity and coverage, and developing specialized communication technologies such as NB-IoT. To make the Internet of Things more accessible to various businesses, we have developed tariff solutions for all popular tasks," notes Andrey Kuznetsov, Director of Tariff Policy and Segment Marketing for Corporate Business at MegaFon.
