Rostelecom in Karelia expanded the optical infrastructure in the urban village of Pyaozerskoye, Loukhsky district. There was already an optical network in the locality, but it did not cover all the streets. As part of the project to expand the telecom infrastructure, the companys specialists laid 2 km of fiber-optic communication lines, providing 127 households with high-speed Internet using PON* technology.
A new stage of infrastructure expansion made it possible to cover Zelenaya, Lesnaya, Sosnovaya, Ozernaya streets, Novy Lane, as well as Captain Kireev and Sergeant Gridin streets in Pyaozerskoye with optical communication lines.
Andrey Osipov, resident of the village of Pyaozerskoye:
I mostly use the Internet for work and play. I used to have a router with a SIM card, but now Ive given it up. I am very glad that now I have fiber-optic Internet: I have already felt the difference, it is significant. Relatives come to visit me from Petrozavodsk and also note that the Internet is excellent, the speed is the same as in the city.
The urban-type settlement of Pyaozersky is located in the Loukhsky district of Karelia - the northernmost in the republic. The Arctic Circle passes through the region. To the north of the village there is the Paanajarvi State National Park, a specially protected natural area.

We are systematically expanding our infrastructure in the region, providing stable and high-speed Internet not only to new buildings, but also to the private sector throughout the republic. When planning work, we take into account citizens requests. Residents of Pyaozerskoye approached us with a collective application for connection. Thanks to their active position, optics came to the village on those streets that were not previously included in the coverage area.
*PON (from the English Passive optical network, passive optical network) is one of the most modern Internet access technologies, which involves laying a cable to the subscribers apartment or house, which guarantees stable speed. Thanks to the high channel capacity, you can simultaneously receive Internet, telephony, video surveillance and modern digital services.
