Romania Electronic Identity Tender

Starting from August 2 2021 the date on which the pilot project regarding the electronic identity card was started until now 5434 identity documents have been issued that meet the European requirements and norms.The electronic identity cards are issued for the citizens of Cluj-Napoca starting from August 2 2021 and for those from Cluj County from August 2 2022 when the pilot project was extended to the entire county.At this moment it is expected to extend the issuance of the electronic identity card at the level of the Municipality of Bucharest in the middle of 2023 and at the national level until December 31 2023.The Ministry of Internal Affairs through the Directorate for the Records of Persons and the Administration of Databases thus continues the process assumed by Regulation EU 20191157 of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 20 2019 regarding the strengthening of the security of identity cards of Union citizens and documents of residence permits issued to citizens of the Union and their family members who exercise their right to free movement to fulfill the obligations regarding the security measures of the persons identity documents.We also appeal to citizens whose identity documents have expired during the state of emergency respectively the state of alert to change their identity cards.Starting from March 9 2022 the measures that were instituted during the state of alert were no longer applied on the territory of Romania.The identity documents that lost their validity during the state of emergency and the state of alert remained valid for a period of 90 days starting from March 9 2022 respectively until June 7 2022.We specify that on March 7 2022 at the national level approximately 387000 expired identity documents were registered between 03.01.2020 and 03.07.2022.The Directorate for the Records of Persons and the Administration of Databases came to the support of citizens through organizational recommendations including by extending the work schedule in municipalities and counties where the situation required it and by producing identity cards in a short time below the maximum limit required by law.Thus between March 9 2022 and November 9 2022 at the national level 1746460 identity cards were issued.
