📋 Tender Overview
In June the regularity of rail passenger transport was 78.23%. This is 2 percentage points lower than the previous month and 2.5 percentage points lower than June 2025. There are several factors behind the decline: already in the last third of June trains were running according to the high-season denser and tighter schedule on several lines the passenger traffic and the length of the trains increased significantly while one of the most extreme heat waves in recent years burdened the network. Many railway vehicles are not designed for such extreme tropical weather conditions: their air conditioning and mechanical systems are adapted to temperate conditions. Due to the extreme heat dome that hit Europe the range of speed restrictions already applied during the summer had to be significantly expanded. We have also introduced temporary slow signs on railway lines where average summer heat would not justify this. In all cases these measures were ordered in order to preserve railway safety and passenger safety but at the same time they also contributed to the deterioration of schedule regularity figures.
The schedule of national IC InterRegio and international trains traveling on longer routes continued to be the weakest and a significant part of the delays of over 20 minutes were caused by these trains. After the delays suffered domestically the delay insurance system is still in effect so in June we refunded about HUF 122 million to our passengers who suffered a delay. All terminus delays amounted to 300000 minutes which was an average of slightly more than 3 minutes per train.
At the same time it is a positive development that the proportion of delays caused by temporary slow signals now shows a permanent decrease. This is because we prioritize track faults by their impact on delays and focus renovations on the sections that cause the most passenger delays.
It is also thanks to this approach that the punctuality of transport in Balaton continued to improve this year despite the heat the proportion of punctual trains on the North-Balaton railway line was nearly 7% higher than last year. There was a 6% increase on the Sobi railway line and further progress is expected thanks to the planned additional minor track renovations.
The regularity of the railway line 100 (Budapest-Cegled-Debrecen-Zahony) which is currently considered as a troop driver among our main lines will also improve. In addition high-performance locomotives mainly Siemens Vectron are constantly arriving and with their nearly 10000 horsepower they provide excellent running characteristics for IC and express trains.
The punctuality of the bus transport maintained its high punctuality despite the hot days: it was over 97% in June and even improved by a tenth of a point compared to the same period of the previous year. The accuracy of aged HEVs was characterized by a respectable value of around 99.4%.
Sales of most ticket and pass products increased substantially compared to last June: sales of county and country passes increased by around 10% day tickets by nearly 20% and cycling products by 15%. At the same time the sale of train tickets decreased which also indicates that during the extreme heat those traveling longer distances planned their trips more consciously and many only set out if it was really necessary. In order to serve them as well as the record-breaking number of group passengers - more than 430000 people mainly children and young people - we tried to provide the most tolerable travel conditions even in the heat: we distributed water installed steam gates at many railway stations.
