π Tender Overview
Brasilia (DF) -- Strategic freight connection branch between the Center-West and the Port of Santos, in the state of Sao Paulo, the Mato Grosso State Railway received R467.3 million in financing from the Center-West Development Fund (FDCO). The amount allocated to the Rumo S.A. project aims to build 87.4 km of railway in the stretch between Rondonopolis (MT) and Santa Elvira (MT), and the construction of four railway yards.
FDCOs participation in the project was approved in July 2022 by the Collegiate Board of the Central-West Development Superintendence (Sudeco), an agency linked to the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MIDR). The transfer took place between Rumo S.A. and Banco do Brasil in two stages, with the release of R312.5 million in 2024 and R154.8 million in November 2025.
A coordenadora-geral de Gestao de Fundos de Desenvolvimento e Financiamento, Raquel Santori, destacou que a atuacao do FDCO em grandes projetos de infraestrutura reflete a politica de desenvolvimento regional liderada pela Sudeco. FDCOs participation in Ferrovia Rumo reinforces Sudecos role in regional development policy and in the promotion of strategic infrastructure for the Central-West. In addition to the logistical gains, the project has an important economic and social impact, with strong potential for generating jobs, income and stimulating regional development, stated Santori.
The logistical impact of the project is highly strategic for the Central-West Region. By expanding local infrastructure and consolidating railway integration with Malha Norte and the port infrastructure of Santos, the railway optimizes the flow of agro-industrial production to the countrys main ports and export corridors. The practical result is the reduction of logistical costs, the increase of regional competitiveness and the stimulus to attract new private investments.
In addition to support from FDCO, the Mato Grosso State Railway project became part of the Novo PAC portfolio. The inclusion gives the project the status of a priority infrastructure project supported by the Federal Government, strengthening institutional articulation.
Advancement of works and generation of jobs
According to project monitoring reports, work is progressing continuously in the region. Currently, earthmoving and drainage services are being carried out, in addition to the construction of bridges, viaducts and other structures on the railway network. Among the consolidated deliveries, highlights include the works on overpasses and underpasses of greater engineering complexity and the initial segments of the railway superstructure (tracks and sleepers).
In addition to the logistical gains, the project stands out for creating approximately 235.6 thousand direct and indirect jobs throughout all phases of implementation and operation, driving an extensive production chain in the region.
The Mato Grosso Railway
Named the Senador Vicente Emilio Vuolo Railway, the projected infrastructure will cover 16 municipalities, connecting the regions of Rondonopolis to Lucas do Rio Verde, in addition to having a branch directed to the capital, Cuiaba.
The expansion of the national railway network, guided by criteria of sustainability, efficiency and logistics modernization, reflects government guidelines to optimize cargo flow and reduce logistics costs in the Brazilian productive sector.
This is a structuring project of great magnitude that consolidates the integration of the state of Mato Grosso and the entire Central-West Region into national and global markets, promoting the transformation of the transport matrix and boosting regional socioeconomic development.
