The Puerto Rico Department of Education PRDE is amending for the second time the request for a waiver for a federal Title IV Part B-21st Century Community Learning Centers program pursuant to section 8401 of the Elementary Education Act and 1965 High School ESSA made to the Federal Department of Education USDE. The request made by the PRDE was authorized on February 18 2020 providing us with an additional year of extension of the validity of the funds granted during the fiscal year 2017-2018 exempting us from complying with section 421 b of the General Education Provisions. Act GEPA.In the original request for flexibility the amount of 6843902.00 was included which was authorized. Subsequently said amount was amended to reflect the new amount of 9516602.73. However for various administrative reasons it is necessary to amend our second request to include the updated amount of 8036260.62. In our request the requested time extension date was until September 30 2020. However the same federal government recommended that due to the pandemic and other emergencies we request to extend the funds until September 30 2021 so that they could authorize us to use them for a longer time to have the opportunity to implement the services properly.With this notification the draft of the PRDE request letter is attached so that you can consult it for more details and information and all the annexes corresponding to said communication.
