MUNICH/OBERWOSSEN On Wednesday evening a forest fire broke out in the Hochwand area near Oberwossen in the Traunstein district. According to the current status, several hectares of state forest are affected in the area of responsibility of the Ruhpolding forestry operation of the Bavarian State Forests. The extinguishing work is ongoing. A large number of fire brigades, mountain rescue services, police, rescue services and helicopters are in action.
Bavarias Minister of Economic Affairs and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Bavarian State Forests, Hubert Aiwanger, on the current situation: What is important now is that the fire can be extinguished quickly and no one is harmed. I am in close contact with District Administrator Andreas Danzer, whom I would like to thank for his prudent actions. My thanks also go out to all the emergency services and helpers who are working under difficult conditions to further contain the fire. It is worth thinking that several forest fires have now occurred in the region within a short space of time. I hope that the extinguishing work is successful and that the situation can be brought fully under control quickly.
The Bavarian State Forests are in close contact with the local operations management and support the measures on site with their local knowledge and forestry expertise.
