π Tender Overview
July 31, 2026
(July 31, 2026) Munich/Aschaffenburg district/Main-Spessart district - There are still three locations in the final selection round for the planned Forest and Society Education Center in the Aschaffenburg district. At the same time, another forest education project in the Spessart is taking concrete shape with the Climate.Forest.Experience educational trail in the state forest at Bischbornerhof.
I am very pleased by the great interest of the municipalities in the Aschaffenburg district. Thirteen location proposals from nine municipalities show that there is great interest in forest education in the Spessart. People see the forest as part of their regional identity and want to understand and experience the forests. This is exactly why we are creating a place with the education center where forest knowledge and nature experience come together, said Forestry Minister Michaela Kaniber about participation in the competition.
The persistent heat shows that the climate crisis has long been a challenge for peoples health, added Health Minister Gerlach. Climate-stable forests not only protect our environment, but are also important recreational areas and contribute to a healthy living environment. Thats why we have to actively adapt our forests to climate change. By strengthening forest education in the Spessart and the new Forest and Society Education Center, we are investing in education and knowledge transfer. By qualifying multipliers, we convey why climate-stable forests are so important and create understanding for the necessary forest conversion - with an impact far beyond the Spessart out.
According to the assessment of the locations by the Karlstadt Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry together with the Lower Franconia regional representation of the Real Estate Free State of Bavaria, two locations in Heigenbrucken and one location in Dammbach are in the lead. Decisive criteria here included proximity to the forest as well as available food and overnight accommodation. The three best-placed locations now go into the final selection round, where the economic viability of the offers is the deciding factor.
The Climate.Forest.Experience project is also making further progress. The course of the new forest educational trail in the area around the Bischbornerhof in the state forest has now been determined. Representatives of the Bavarian Forestry Administration, the Bavarian State Forests, teachers and the Spessart Nature Park finalized the individual stations of the educational trail in a joint workshop. In the next step, planning for the technical implementation begins.
I am pleased that my years of commitment to a forest education center in the Spessart have paid off and that the educational trail at the Bischbornerhof is now being implemented. The combination of information and playground is a real highlight for the community, especially for families. In this way, we bring people closer to the forest with its natural and cultural history. The current forest fires in southern Europe clearly show how important it is to raise awareness among current and future generations about the importance and Forest interests, added state parliament member Thorsten Schwab.
Forestry Minister Michaela Kaniber, Health Minister Judith Gerlach and state parliament member Thorsten Schwab gave the starting signal for both projects in July 2025 in Lohr am Main. The aim is to further strengthen the Spessart as an important forest region in Bavaria and as a location for modern forest education.
