PKP Polish Railway Lines S.A. has announced a tender for the design of the Katowice Piotrowice – Tychy railway line. This is part of a large investment from B?dzin through Sosnowiec, Katowice, Tychy to Zebrzydowice and the border with the Czech Republic, which will completely change rail transport in the Silesian Voivodeship. The main objective of the task is to increase rail accessibility, shorten the travel time of trains on a line important in local, inter-provincial and international transport, increase capacity by expanding the track system and improving the standard of travel.
The reconstruction of the Tychy station will be planned, along with the construction of a new passage under the tracks, connected to the platforms by stairs and lifts. The scope of the task will also include the Katowice Piotrowice and Katowice Podlesie stops, which will be adapted to serve travellers with reduced mobility. Greater access to the railway will be provided by the planned new stops in Katowice at Tunelowa and Niemy?lek streets, as well as in Tychy M?ko?owiec.
The task involves designing the modernization of the tracks along with the addition of additional tracks, thanks to which agglomeration and long-distance traffic will be separated. More trains will be able to run.
PKP Polish Railway Lines S.A. announced a tender for the development of design documentation for the task "Works on basic passenger routes (E 30 and E 65) in the area of Silesia, Stage I: Line E 65 on the Katowice Piotrowice - Tychy section - design works". Design work is planned for 2024–2027. Construction works could be carried out in the years 2028-2031, after obtaining financing.
Katowice Piotrowice – Tychy is part of a large investment
The Katowice Piotrowice – Tychy section of the railway line is part of a larger investment on the B?dzin – Zebrzydowice line. PLK SA is carrying out construction works between B?dzin and Katowice Szopienice Po?udnie and between Tychy and Gocza?kowice. The Katowice Szopienice P?d. – Katowice Piotrowice and Zabrzeg – Zebrzydowice sections are in the course of tender procedures. Construction works on the section from Gocza?kowice-Zdrój to Zabrzeg have been completed.
