📋 Tender Overview
PKP Polish Railway Lines SA announced a tender for the design and adaptation of railway lines No. 133 and 134 (Sosnowiec J?zor – Kraków G?ówny) to the pan-European parameters of the TEN-T network. Thanks to the installation of a modern rail traffic management system, the safety and smoothness of journeys on an important section of the international E30 railway line, connecting Silesia and Ma?opolska, will be increased.
The investment will consist in adapting a total of over 58 kilometres of railway lines No. 133 and 134 (on the Sosnowiec J?zor - Kraków G?ówny section) to the parameters required by the European Community as part of the TEN-T network (Trans-European Transport Network). This will standardise the rail traffic management system and increase safety by supporting and reducing the role of humans in the train control process.
ERTMS/ETCS is a state-of-the-art railway train control system that continuously monitors the driver's driving by monitoring the permissible speed and stopping points. Communication between the train and the trackside system is carried out by radio, using the railway telecommunications network. Its implementation will contribute to increasing the safety of rail traffic and saving energy consumption by improving the capacity and smoothness of train traffic.
The investment schedule assumes that the contractors will complete the design stage in the second half of 2025, and the construction works will be carried out by the end of this year. This will allow the new system to be tested and put into operation in the first half of 2027.
Financed under the National Recovery Plan, the project "Adaptation to the required parameters of the TEN-T network by installing the ERTMS/ETCS level 2 system on the railway line No. 133 and railway line No. 134 on the section Sosnowiec J?zor – Kraków G?ówny" will have a positive impact on the functioning of rail transport on the important E30 railway line, connecting Silesia with Ma?opolska, and Poland with Germany on the one hand and Ukraine on the other. Thanks to the modernization carried out by PLK SA in previous years, passenger trains can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h.
