The construction of the underground connection between ?ód? Fabryczna and ?ód? Kaliska/?ód? ?abieniec has entered the next stage. From 19 January, the smaller TBM will be moved over the tracks of the ?ód? – ?owicz line to the chamber at ?niwna Street, from where it will start drilling the third single-track tunnel. The investment will open the ?ód? agglomeration to new long-distance, regional and agglomeration connections. The project of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for over PLN 1.8 billion net is co-financed from the Operational Programme for Infrastructure and Environment.
On Friday, 19 January, the operation of moving the first elements of the TBM Faustyna will begin, which drilled the second single-track tunnel of the underground cross-city route under ?ód? (from the Koziny stop towards the ?abieniec station), and then stopped in the technological chamber on Skarpowa Street.
Extraction from the 650-tonne TBM chamber requires dividing it into 11 elements, which will then be individually placed on a previously prepared platform next to the railway line. Hence, the elements of the shield, along with the vehicles for transporting soil from the tunnel, will be carried over the tracks of the railway line No. 15 to the starting chamber at ?niwna Street.
Specialized cranes with a lifting capacity of 650 tons and 550 tons will be used to carry out the task.
In the first place, the so-called shield jacket weighing 55 tons will be moved. In the next stages, the remaining TBM parts will be transported. Once transferred to the other side of the tracks, each of the parts will undergo a detailed inspection. In the last stage, the elements will be placed in the starting chamber at ?niwna Street on a specially prepared cradle and reassembled.
In the second half of February, the drilling of the third of 4 single-track tunnels in the direction of the ?ód? Koziny stop will begin. In 2024, TBM Faustyna will build a fourth tunnel from Koziny to the chamber at Unii Lubelska Avenue.
The cross-city tunnel is a project of OPI&E 5.1-15 "Restoration of the ?ód? Railway Junction (TEN-T), stage II, section ?ód? Fabryczna - ?ód? Kaliska/?ód? ?abieniec" - continuation of the construction of the ?ód? Fabryczna railway station, which will become a through station from the final station. Regional and long-distance trains will run through the very centre of ?ód? – on the east-west axis (via the ?ód? Widzew, Fabryczna and Kaliska stations) and on the north-south axis (through the ?ód? PLK SA submitted an application for phasing of the project, i.e. dividing the investment into stages and financing the works carried out after 2023 from the EU budget for 2021-2027. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
The priority of PLK S.A. is to carry out works on a socially important project with the current contractor, while maintaining the highest safety standards. It is an extremely complicated project, carried out under the city centre and in difficult terrain.
