"Implementation of the WIIP Initiative related to the use of cloud computing in public administration is a milestone in creating a modern and secure state" - said Janusz Cieszy?ski. The Minister of Digitization emphasized that the development of this project is one of the key tasks facing the ministry.
On August 11, 2023, the Minister of Digitization sent an amendment to the resolution on the WIIP Initiative for 14-day consultations and opinions.
The purpose of the amendment is primarily the development of cloud services for public administration. The project assumes adapting the regulations to the current needs and conditions dictated by the development of new technologies, especially cloud services, and secondly - creating a situation where as many entities as possible can use the Public Cloud or Government Cloud Computing.
This will be achieved by:
increasing the level of security of data processing and the provision of electronic services in government administration;
reduction of data processing costs;
increasing the efficiency of spending funds in projects containing elements of IT infrastructure;
shortening the time of implementation of new IT projects thanks to faster provision of the required IT infrastructure;
limiting the phenomenon of multiple collection of the same data in IT environments;
removing technological barriers for public registers;
dissemination of the cloud computing model as the main method of implementation of the state's ICT systems (including a change in software development technology).
“We are developing the project, looking for the simplest solutions possible, while maintaining the highest safety standards. This requires us to take a critical look at the current legislative assumptions,” said Minister Janusz Cieszy?ski.
What is a public cloud?
We should understand the public cloud as computing services offered by providers from other companies via the public Internet. This way, they are available to anyone who wants to use or buy them.
What is the Government Cloud Computing?
On the other hand, the Government Cloud Computing is common for public administration and intended for exclusive use by a specific group of organizations with common assumptions (e.g. mission, security requirements, policy, compliance with regulations).
What is WIP?
The WIIP initiative has been implemented since 2019. Its goal is to increase the security of data processed in ICT systems of public administration entities and to optimize their maintenance costs.
WIIP assumes the optimization of the existing ICT resources and applications in public administration by providing modern and cost-optimal information technologies.
