This will relieve people whose identity has been stolen from the need to defend themselves against debts that arose as a result of criminal activities emphasizes Janusz Cieszyski Government Plenipotentiary for Cybersecurity. The use of the government service will be informative and will also have legal consequences. Financial institutions will be required to verify that the person making the financial commitment has not made a reservation in the government database. The regulations will block the possibility of pursuing claims granted despite the reservation made. Such a solution will relieve the victims of crime from the need to defend themselves against claims resulting from the activities of criminals. The reservation will be free and voluntary for citizens. We increase the security of citizensAccording to the legislators proposal a new register containing information on restricted PESEL numbers will be created. Loan companies bankscredit unions loan companies but also notaries and courts will be required to check whether the applicants data is entered in this register. If they do not ensure this they will not be able to pursue claims against the person who fell victim to identity theft and reported this fact and yet the thief managed to extort money or conclude a contract using the stolen ID - explains Cieszyski. We have all heard of situations where a person whose ID card was stolen had to repay credits or loans taken out by thieves using their ID card. We want to prevent this and improve the security of citizens. If the regulation comes into force it will not be possible to pursue claims against a person who has been the victim of such a crime and has previously used a government service. But this also applies to situations such as for example concluding a real estate sale agreement such an agreement will not be legally binding he adds. The new regulations are intended to reduce the number of crimes with the use of stolen identity as well as to reduce the losses resulting from extortion and other consequences of identity theft. A draft amendment to the Act on Population Records and some other acts in connection with preventing the effects of identity theft will soon be submitted for consultation.Time mattersThe mObywatel application is already used by over 9 million people and this number is still growing. The application will be the most convenient and fastest tool to use the new service. If you do not have the application on your phone you will be able to make reservations after logging in to mobywatel.gov.pl . Until now victims have not had many options to prevent their stolen identities from being used. Now we will be able to secure our data within a few minutes explains Minister Cieszyski. There will also be an additional facility for people who are not proficient with computers. In order to make a reservation it will be possible to submit a written application to any commune office presenting another proof of identity e.g. a passport.
