It will be safer in rail and road traffic in Teresin and Paprotnia near Warsaw. PKP Polish Railway Lines S.A., the Sochaczew District and the Teresin Municipality handed over the construction site to the contractor. A new tunnel under the tracks will replace the rail-road crossing. The investment will be completed in 2026 and will apply for funding from the European Union from FEnIKS funds.
The construction of a collision-free intersection in Teresin along Ojca Maksymiliana Kolbego/Szymanowska Street (county road No. 3837W) has begun. A 140-metre-long tunnel under the tracks of railway line No. 3 Warsaw – Kunowice will replace the current crossing, and drivers will not have to wait in front of the closed toll gates. There will be two lanes for cars and a pedestrian and bicycle path.
The net value of the project is approximately PLN 42 million. The financial commitment of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. amounts to approx. PLN 19.5 million net and will be part of the project "Improvement of safety at railway line crossings with roads – Stage IV". The remaining part will be financed by the Sochaczew District. The project will apply for co-financing by the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment FEnIKS.
From 6 February, the contractor will start works related to the removal of the rail-road crossing on the border of Teresin and Paprotnia. Drivers will be guided by detours. The change in traffic organization has been agreed with road administrators. Train traffic will be carried out on a single track. Construction of the facility is expected to be completed in 2026.
More collision-free intersections in Mazovia
The construction of the tunnel in Teresin is part of the activities of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. aimed at increasing safety in railway traffic through the construction of collision-free crossings.
Only in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship are collision-free intersections, apart from Teresin, also being built in Pruszków, and a facility in Celestynów is being designed. A pedestrian and bicycle viaduct was built in Ciechanów, which will be put into use in February this year. Thanks to PLK SA's investments in Mazovia, collision-free intersections have already been built, among others, on Karczunkowska Street in Warsaw, in Legionowo, Otwock, Wo?omin, Zielonka, Koby?ka, T?uszcz, Topor, Jasienica Mazowiecka and Sulejówek.
