On 15 July this year, the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways signed a contract for the design and construction of a section of the S12 expressway between Przysucha and Wieniawa in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The investment worth PLN 597.4 million will be carried out by a consortium of Mirbud and Kobylarnia.
"Since the beginning of 2024, GDDKiA has already signed 20 contracts for the construction of expressway sections in Poland worth PLN 11.7 billion. Our goal is to complete the entire network of expressways as soon as possible, because they contribute to greater mobility, improve the economic attractiveness of our country, and above all, are much safer than single carriageway roads," said Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak.
The 14.7 km long section of the S12 is a fragment of the route that will ultimately connect the A1 motorway near Piotrków Trybunalski with the eastern border of the state in Dorohusk. The new road between Przysucha and Wieniawa will significantly improve the transport system of the ?ód? Region and southern Mazovia. After the construction of the S12, it will take over transit traffic from the congested DK12 running through numerous villages and cities. The average daily traffic on this route between Piotrków Trybunalski and Radom ranges from nearly 10 thousand in the vicinity of Radom, to almost 25 thousand in the area of Piotrków Trybunalski.
On the Przysucha – Wieniawa section, the S12 will have two roadways with two lanes of 3.5 m width each and an emergency lane with a width of 2.5 m. There will also be two road junctions (Przysucha at the intersection with DW727 and Wieniawa at the intersection with the current DK12), two service areas (MOP Wieniawa Pó?noc and MOP Wieniawa Po?udnie), a road maintenance circuit, numerous viaducts, bridges and other engineering structures. Three large crossings and numerous culverts are planned on the animal migration routes. In the immediate vicinity of the route, a modern infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists will be built, ensuring safety. The choice of the type of surface is at the discretion of the contractor.
According to the contract, the design and construction works are scheduled for 43 months from the conclusion of the contract. Winter breaks (from mid-December to mid-March) will not be included in the construction time (approx. 22 months).
S12 under construction
Drivers can already use nearly 94 km of the S12 expressway in the Lublin Voivodeship, from Pu?awy to Piaski. 70 of the 75 km further section to the border with Ukraine are under construction. The initial section of the route, approx. 61 km, from the A1 motorway to the border of the ?ód? and Mazowieckie Voivodeships, as well as another approx. 67 km from Radom to Pu?awy, is at the stage of preparatory works.
Once all sections are built, the S12 expressway will provide an efficient and safe connection between the centre of the country and the Lublin region, as well as the country's eastern border.
