The Philippine Statistics Authority PSA Iloilo has started the geo-tagging of building structures in the enumeration areas in the province of Iloilo on March 21 this year.The 2019 Geo-Tagging of Building Structures is part of the five-year rolling scheme technology-aided map updating which was started by PSA in 2016 in preparation for the conduct of the Census of Population and Housing next year. Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida Amolar called on the residents and officials from 1288 barangays to cooperate with their personnel deployed in connection with the ongoing geo-tagging activity and expected to end this June.PSA hired and trained a total of 60 Map Data Screeners MDSs and Map Data Collectors MDCs to do the work under the project.Specifically Amolar said the geo-tagging activity intends to identify and mark building structures as points in the digitized maps and to attribute these buildings with pertinent geographical information for use in the various statistical undertaking of PSA.It also seeks to come up with accurate up-to-date and dynamic digitized enumeration area base maps and to aid in the creation of the building registry in the Philippines.The geo-tagging activity will also be used in the following as guide in the post-census evaluation activities as reference in the conduct of several HouseholdEstablishment-based surveys and censuses and in the preparation of various geospatial distribution and data visualization for information dissemination.It will also be a help in the development of the Master Sample and other Sampling Frames and to provide inputs for validating sampling frame.
