π Tender Overview
A collective effort was made by the authorities and the population to contribute to the conservation of these important ecosystems. In commemoration of the World Wetlands Day, the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), carried out two days of cleaning of wetlands that are of vital importance for the department of Ancash: the Villa Maria coastal wetland and the Conococha lagoon in the Andean area. Through this intervention, approximately 3,000 kilograms of waste were collected.
The cleaning days, organized in collaboration with Propar of the Provincial Municipality of Santa, the Huascaran National Park; and with the support of the Antamina Mining Company, had the active participation of more than 200 volunteers. Among them, the members of the National Police School of Peru of Nuevo Chimbote, the Environmental Commission of the Judicial Branch of Chimbote, the Decentralized Unit for Environmental Protection of the National Police of Peru (UNIDPMA-PNP), the Environmental University Network of the National University of Ancash Santiago Antunez de Mayol (UNASAM) and the Regional Directorate of Agriculture stand out.
The main objective of these sessions was to raise awareness among the local population about the importance of wetlands and ecosystem services, as well as to promote their conservation as a natural habitat for various species of wild flora and fauna, and to encourage the active participation of institutions and the community in this process, said Hugo Carrillo, technical administrator of the Technical Administration for Forestry and Wildlife (ATFFS) Ancash of SERFOR.
These wetlands play a fundamental role in the conservation of biological diversity, serving as habitat for various species of aquatic birds. In the case of the Conococha lagoon, the presence of 37 species of aquatic birds and 12 migratory species has been recorded. For its part, the Villa Maria wetland, incorporated into the Sectoral List of Fragile Ecosystems since 2019, is home to 90 species of wild flora and 76 species of wild fauna.
