π Tender Overview
Both institutions will work on a joint vision to strengthen the legality and sustainability of forest resource management, boosting their competitiveness. In an effort to strengthen the countrys forestry sector, the National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI) and the Agency for the Supervision of Forest and Wildlife Resources (OSINFOR) are beginning strategic meetings to strengthen the coordination between both institutions with the aim of guaranteeing the legality, sustainability and competitiveness of the sector and addressing urgent needs, together with regional forestry authorities.
The executive director of SERFOR, Erasmo Otarola Acevedo, indicated that both institutions have the same objective, we seek to carry out integrated and complementary planning, in addition to generating regulations and public policies based on the reality of the national territory, which will allow us to use shared information for decision-making and to be more efficient and competitive in the countrys forestry management.
In addition, Otarola Acevedo stressed that together with OSINFOR, we seek a balance between conservation and sustainable development to promote a forestry sector that generates added value and benefit for the population.
The coordination between both institutions is essential to ensure that the sector not only complies with regulations, but is also strengthened with new opportunities that allow the actors in the sector to be more competitive both nationally and internationally, said the head of OSINFOR, Williams Arellano.
This meeting, which takes place on Monday, February 3 and Tuesday, February 4 in Lima, seeks to identify strategies to value permanent production forests, strengthen their responsible use and conservation.
It is important to note that Peru has more than 68 million hectares of forests, representing 53% of its territory, and a forest potential that, managed sustainably, could generate significant economic and environmental benefits, including reducing deforestation, illegal logging and other scourges that affect forest heritage.
In this context, effective coordination between OSINFOR and SERFOR is key to ensuring sustainable management of forest and wildlife resources. Among them, the renewal of the Cooperation Agreement, both entities reinforce their commitment to work together to consolidate a more competitive, sustainable forestry sector aligned with the conservation of ecosystems.
