📋 Tender Overview
Mr. Secretary General of the International Exhibitions Bureau, Dimitri Kerkentzes,
Mr. Director General for Cultural Affairs, Ambassador Javier Yépez,
Dear Ambassador Rolando Ruiz Rosas, Ambassador of Peru in France,
Mr. Executive President in charge of Promperú, Ricardo Limo,
Ladies and gentlemen delegates,
We are very pleased to host this Capacity Building Programme for the organisation and participation in International Exhibitions, and we are also honoured that it is the first to be organised in our region.
I welcome the presence of representatives of the countries of the Americas who will participate in this important meeting today and tomorrow. Please accept our warmest welcome.
We also extend a special welcome to the Secretary General of the BIE, Mr. Dimitri Kerkentzes, whom we are pleased to welcome on his first visit to our country, and to the Secretariat team accompanying him. We thank you for this valuable initiative that contributes to improving the positioning of our countries in international exhibitions.
Since April, when the idea of ??holding this session of the Programme in Peru was formalised, our country has been working closely with the International Exhibitions Bureau to make this event a reality, which will allow us to share our know-how and experience accumulated over almost a century of the BIE's existence.
In a complex international situation, marked by geopolitical rivalries and pressing global challenges, we value international exhibitions as spaces for dialogue and cooperation between nations, in which their achievements, aspirations and values ??are highlighted in order to contribute to the progress of humanity.
From this perspective, International Exhibitions are cutting-edge laboratories of ideas, where innovations of different nature and scope are presented as examples of human ingenuity, with concrete solutions, even if they sometimes seem utopian, to global challenges, in the interest of a more integrated and prosperous world.
Exhibitions are also catalysts for urban transformation and development in the cities that have had the opportunity to host them, including their legacy with emblematic monuments such as the Eiffel Tower, the icon of the Paris Exposition of 1889, the Atom of Brussels of 1958, and the Wheel of Chicago, from the 1892 Exposition in that city.
This tradition will be followed by the cities that will host the next exhibitions, such as the Universal Osaka-Kansai 2025; the International Belgrade 2027 and the Universal Riyadh 2030. I thank their representatives for having accepted the invitation to enrich this Programme with their presence and to transmit to us their visions, concepts and proposals.
We will also have a presentation on the Yokohama 2027 International Horticultural Exposition by its organizers, whom we thank, the first of this type of program and which will surely fuel the interest so that our countries, institutions or associations can project themselves in these exhibitions, whose theme is also very close to us and has been little used.
The benefits for the participating countries are, as we know, both material and intangible. From its first participation in 1855 to the most recent one at Expo 2022 Dubai, with the “Peru Atemporal” pavilion, which received the “People's Choice Award”, Peru has made an effort to position and share the richness of its ancestral history, its human heritage and the opportunities it offers as a developing country open to the world.
Surely the “Wisdom creating future” pavilion in Osaka-Kansai next year will also contribute to projecting these aspirations. We are therefore pleased that, at the initiative of Promperú, various ministries, agencies and other entities linked to the planning and execution of our presence at International Exhibitions now or in the future are participating in this program.
Peru maintains a permanent and historical commitment to international exhibitions and to the work of the BIE, in which we seek to contribute to the objectives and principles that inspire it, as expressed in its motto "Instruction, Innovation and Cooperation". We are therefore honored to be part of its Regulations Committee, whose presidency, in the current biennium, is held by our Ambassador in France, of which he is serving as president in the current biennium.
