π Tender Overview
The municipality has successfully completed the second section of Goal 3, established by the MEF. The Provincial Municipality of Piura, through the Sub-directorate of Integrated Solid Waste Management, has successfully fulfilled the second stage of Goal 3, established by the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). This includes the execution of key activities that reinforce the municipal commitment to efficient and sustainable management of solid waste.
This year, the Piura Recicla program has made significant progress in waste recovery, citizen awareness and recovery of public spaces. Thanks to the work of formalized recyclers and operating companies, 1,990 tons of inorganic waste have been recovered, benefiting 26,432 families, of which 17,133 actively participate in waste segregation, reaching 64.82% citizen commitment.
Regarding organic waste, 900 tons have been recovered through the production of compost, in partnership with local markets. This compost has been used to improve the districts green areas, contributing to a healthier urban environment.
Municipal workers have also recovered 18 critical points that had become informal dumps, improving the final disposal of waste and transforming these spaces into clean and orderly areas for the community.
Engineer Juan Echeandia Vina, deputy manager of Comprehensive Solid Waste Management, highlighted that more and more families are becoming aware of the importance of waste segregation. This not only reduces the amount of waste sent to the dump, but also allows formalized recyclers to take advantage of the materials, improving their quality of life and economy.
As part of the projections for this year, five home collection routes for organic waste will be implemented, expanding coverage to supermarkets and restaurants. With the implementation of five compactors and the expansion of collection routes, it is expected to significantly improve the efficiency of the public cleaning service in the city.
In addition, in a key step for environmental infrastructure, the Ministry of the Environment has called for tenders for the construction of a modern sanitary landfill, one of the largest in the region. This project will strengthen solid waste management and ensure proper final disposal, promoting the recovery of both organic and inorganic waste.
With these initiatives, the Provincial Municipality of Piura continues to advance towards the consolidation of a cleaner, more sustainable city that is committed to the environment.
