On the occasion of the celebrations for the 203rd anniversary of Perus Independence, it is important to highlight the work of our scientists and researchers who demonstrate a vision of change.Science, technology and innovation pay a well-deserved tribute to the country. With the work of outstanding Peruvian researchers and scientists in different regions, who are recognized for their important findings and achievements. Which drives a qualitative leap for the improvement of our society. Along these lines, they receive the support of CONCYTEC, through ProCiencia, to develop these projects in regions of the coast, mountains and jungle of Peru.
For example, from Arequipa, the Geophysical Institute of Peru is carrying out research on the implementation of a volcanic explosion detector with the use of artificial intelligence on the Sabancaya volcano, which uses algorithms for the immediate identification of activity. From the coast, in Lima, scientists from the La Molina Agrarian University have been carrying out biotechnological studies on yeast, for the generation of biodegradable sunscreens. Through genetic screening, advances are developed to avoid elements harmful to the environment, from the most used sunscreens on the market.
With concern in the countrys jungle and infectious diseases transmitted by wild animals, researchers from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos carry out studies in molecular biology for the detection of viruses and bacteria that are transmitted by primates and wild animals, with samples taken in the regions of Loreto, Ucayali and Madre de Dios.
In the interesting field of nanotechnology, by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP); A group of researchers has ventured to discover new ways to take advantage of our native potatoes. This study focuses on the advanced manufacturing of starch nanoparticles that allow substances such as curcumin and quercetin to be encapsulated, to improve their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
