This figure exceeds the connections generated in the same period of the previous year by nearly 200%.In the first half of 2024, the Public Spaces for Digital Access (EPAD) initiative recorded a total of 3,776,820 Internet connections, a result that represents 192.78% more compared to the 1,290,000 connections in the same period in 2023, reported the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC).
The objective of the EPAD initiative is to increase the penetration of Internet access in rural areas of the regions of Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Apurimac, Cusco, Tumbes, Piura and Cajamarca, so that, from their squares or public spaces, residents and visitors can freely connect from their cell phones, electronic devices, tablets or laptops to academic, recreational or economic activities. Connectivity is a fundamental pillar for the development of our rural communities. The results obtained by the EPAD initiative demonstrate the positive impact of our public policies for the benefit of thousands of Peruvians. Our commitment is to continue working to enhance the reach of our interventions so that more and more Peruvians enjoy the opportunities that the Internet offers, said the Vice Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa Vela.
