It is the only institution in the country that manufactures its own prostheses for patients who require reconstruction of the oral cavity and facial region. The Ministry of Health (Minsa), through the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases (INEN), implemented an exclusive environment for its Maxillofacial Prosthesis and 3D Design Laboratory, which will double the capacity in the production of prostheses for patients who require reconstruction and/or rehabilitation of the oral cavity and facial region.
The expansion of the specialized area represents a significant advance in the use of three-dimensional technology for the creation of more sophisticated and personalized prostheses and implants. Currently, 800 prostheses are produced annually in the institution, benefiting patients who face defects in the maxillary bones due to lesions generated by cancer.
This strengthens our working conditions and optimizes the results in the rehabilitation of our oncological patients, said the head of the Functional Unit of Odonto-Stomatology at INEN, Juan Carlos Meza Moran.
The specialist pointed out that the laboratory specializes in the design and processing of various types of prostheses and implants, both conventional and non-conventional, for oncology patients in the head and neck specialty, as part of their oncology treatment.
These include intraoral prostheses, extraoral somatic prostheses, ocular prostheses, radiotherapy protectors, implants and orbital shapers, personalized orbito-zygomatic implants, surgical guides and biomodels, he explained.

The modernization of the laboratory was highlighted by the institutional head of INEN, Francisco Berrospi Espinoza, who reaffirmed his commitment to technological innovation, which allows the Institute to consolidate itself as a reference in the management of oral and maxillofacial oncology sequelae in the country.

It should be noted that INEN is the only institution in the country that manufactures its own non-metallic custom prostheses. This unique capability allows it to offer tailor-made solutions, guaranteeing quality and precision in each of its products.
In addition, the maxillofacial laboratory stands out as the first in Minsa health institutions to incorporate three-dimensional technology, combining a dental laboratory with a 3D one. This innovation not only improves the production of prostheses, but also optimizes the results in patient rehabilitation.
