π Tender Overview
At the launch held in the city of Ica, the first credit programs aimed at small and artisanal miners were presented, promoted thanks to an alliance between the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), the Ica Municipal Fund and the planetGOLD Peru project of UNDP.
The Crece Minero Credit is a financial product that seeks to benefit small-scale miners, formal and in the process of formalization, allowing them to access working capital for the acquisition of fixed assets such as equipment and machinery that allow them to carry out their operations in a more technified way and without using mercury, thus protecting the environment.
The head of the General Directorate of Mining Formalization (DGFM) of MINEM, Alberto Rojas, welcomed the development of this type of initiative, and invited other financial entities to join this campaign and allow banking and financial inclusion of small-scale miners.
On the other hand, the Mujer Pallaquera Credit was presented, a financial product aimed at manual gold selectors known as pallaqueras that are in the Register of Third Natural Persons and manual gold selectors.
The General Director of Credits of Caja Municipal de Ica, Sergio Llerena, considered important this contribution to the mining sector in order to achieve the development of all the regions where they have a presence, with main emphasis on Ica.
For his part, Jorge Γlvarez, UNDP Environmental Sustainability Program Officer stressed that "financial inclusion is an engine for sustainable development, as it allows economic growth and the well-being of people and companies, especially in rural communities where artisanal mining is a source of employment for thousands of men and women, providing them with opportunities for a better quality of life."
It should be noted that these financial products will initially come into force in the provinces of Palpa, Nazca, Ica and Chala and then be replicated in other regions nationwide.
