π Tender Overview
During 2023, the National Superintendence of Migration carried out the registration of personal and biometric data of 1,500 foreign inmates in prisons in Lima and the interior of the country, in order to contribute to the strengthening of security and internal order.
This activity, carried out under an agreement with the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), consists of capturing the fingerprints, facial biometrics and digital signature of foreign inmates.
In this way, the full identification of foreign inmates, some of whom may have entered Peru irregularly, is carried out, and their data is stored in the Migratory Information Registry β RIM, which is administered by the entity.
To carry out this work, Migrations, through its zonal headquarters, for the first time transferred its specialists to the penitentiaries with mobile enrollment teams.
After verification of identity and evaluation of the file, the foreign inmate is assigned the suspended migratory status, which corresponds to foreigners detained or deprived of liberty for violation of the criminal law, in accordance with Legislative Decree 1350 of the Migration Law and its Regulations.
Subsequently, each zonal headquarters delivers to the director of the penitentiary where the foreign inmate is being held the corresponding alien card, which will remain in custody until the person completes his sentence or a judge orders his release and must leave the country.
To date, Migrations has granted suspended migratory status to foreign inmates in the Chorrillos Women's Annex, Chorrillos and Fatima prisons. Likewise, in the prisons of Lurigancho, Castro Castro, AncΓ³n I, AncΓ³n II, and Callao.
In addition, in the prisons of Arequipa, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Chimbote, Cusco, Huancayo, Iquitos, Piura, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, Puno, Tacna, Tarapoto, Trujillo and Tumbes,
The process of granting the suspended migratory status will continue to be carried out during 2024, in order to keep the RIM updated and contribute as an institution to the security and internal order of the country.
