The National Superintendence of Migration received at its headquarters in Breña a batch of 200,000 electronic passport books and security sheets, corresponding to the first delivery of the 800,000 travel documents acquired through an international tender.
This first batch was delivered in the presence of the entity's Internal Control Body.
As part of this acquisition, commissioned in October 2022 to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, three new deliveries of 200 thousand passport books each will be received over the next few months, thus ensuring supply until at least mid-2024.
In this way, the entity will continue to expand appointments to serve the thousands of citizens who require the travel document. It should be noted that, to date, passport appointments are available for the next few days.
Record number of passports issued
So far in 2023, Migrations has issued more than 770 thousand electronic passports, the highest figure in the last five years, whose average is less than 600 thousand per year.
This substantial increase in the issuance of these travel documents was possible due to the signing of a first contract, in March of this year, through which 546,000 electronic passport books were acquired, which made it possible to reduce the inherited gap between supply and demand.
It should be noted that, in order to ensure timely attention to citizens, Migrations attends without the need for an appointment to people who must travel in the next two working days, presenting their travel ticket.
This service is carried out uninterruptedly at the central headquarters in Breña, from 07:00 hours on Monday until 14:00 on Saturdays, and in the other offices during their regular hours. Meanwhile, at the Jorge Chávez International Airport agency, people who show up 8 hours before the flight with their boarding pass are served 365 days a year.
Prompt attention is also provided to people who need to process a visa, scholarship or health trip, by submitting an application through the Digital Migration Agency.
