In a joint effort to strengthen the planning, monitoring and evaluation capacities of social interventions to contribute to closing gaps, the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion (Midis), the German Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Rural Development of India (MoRD), in an articulated work, implemented the Geoportal Midis prototype, a geospatial platform that allows the georeferenced information of the poor and vulnerable population to be displayed in the territory, and makes it possible to characterize the geographical barrier to the services available from the Midis social programs. and other public services that contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the population.
The Midis Geoportal arises from the need to have a tool that strengthens the management of the sectors geographic information, so that once standardized, validated and documented, it can be easily available for the indicated uses, including the analysis of the physical access of the population to public services located in territories with heterogeneous contexts of coast, mountains and jungle. This information allows us to improve decision-making in the sector for an adequate allocation of resources for interventions, contributing to closing gaps in the provision of social services, highlighted the director of Monitoring and Evaluation of Midis, Enrique Velasquez.

In turn, the director of the Regional Fund for Triangular Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Christof Kersting, stressed that it has been a good coincidence that Indias long experience in the design and implementation of geospatial portals, and that this knowledge can be transferred and fed back from Peru, with the aim of finding solutions for the development of both countries.
The development of the Geoportal prototype, based on free technologies and with information in the cloud, has been supported by the active participation of the Midis Spatial Data Working Group, made up of various units and social programs of the ministry, who have actively collaborated in Prepare your spatial information, in accordance with the standards and following required processes and mechanisms, so that they can be available for use and enhancement in the improvement of public policies.
