📋 Tender Overview
Before the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 28), the Deputy Minister of Agrarian Development Policies and Supervision of MIDAGRI, Víctor Parra, reported that "food production was always assured; even in the worst moments of the pandemic and, to continue on that course, efficient water management is required to ensure sustainable economic, social and environmental development."
"Peru has allocated more than one billion dollars this year to contribute to the efficient management of water resources. The recovery of the millenary technology of sowing and harvesting water for agricultural use, benefits thousands of hectares currently impacted by the water deficit," he said.
In this regard, Deputy Minister Parra also reported that, as an example of the effects of climate change, in the last year Peru has been affected, almost simultaneously, by floods and droughts, which will be repeated with the imminent arrival of the El Niño phenomenon. "It is estimated that around US$ 100 million will be affected, with agricultural producers being among the most vulnerable," he said.
In the framework of COP 28, which is taking place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Deputy Minister Parra explained that in this sense, "the needs are always greater, so we welcome the implementation of the Loss and Damage Fund, as an opportune mechanism to face the onslaught of nature and that the measures described are aligned with the strategies, to address one of the main challenges to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda: food security," he said.
It should be noted that Dubai brings together ministers and representatives from different countries around the world to assess global efforts in the fight against climate change. At the international meeting, Deputy Minister Víctor Parra announced the signing of an important declaration together with other ministers of state to address food security, as part of the strategy to combat this problem.
