On May 29, 30 and 31, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) held the first workshop for the installation of a Public Policy Laboratory, which initiates a process of capacity transfer to generate systematic and reliable evidence on the cost-effectiveness of public policies applied in Peru. whose results will serve as input for decision-making on budget allocation.
The workshop, which seeks to establish a new institutional strategy with an experimental approach in the country, was attended by national and international experts in the field of public policies and was attended by the Development Innovation Lab (DIL) of the University of Chicago, officials of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), officials and servants of the MEF and other public entities.
During this working meeting, the Experimental Policy Model developed by DIL was presented and the strengths and challenges of similar experiences in other countries of the region were exposed. Likewise, diagnoses and various proposals for innovation in public management were presented to face problems in the sectors of health, development and social inclusion, women and vulnerable populations and economic development. Likewise, innovations were explored to provide solutions to problems in the State administration in terms of human resources management, public procurement and investments.
The workshop, which was organized by the Directorate of Expenditure Quality of the General Public Budget, concluded with the elaboration of a medium-term work plan for the implementation of research competitions and the realization of experimental evaluations that allow policy decisions applied in the country.
Within this framework, the MEF teams, with the assistance of the University of Chicago, will continue the work begun on the implementation of the Experimental Policy so that the country advances in promoting a culture of evaluation and implementing quality public interventions, through a budget allocation scheme that prioritizes public resources. based on evidence.
