A dream come true This was stated by the delegation of para-athletes who participated in the visit to the site where the first vertical Paralympic center in the country will be located, with a view to becoming the venue for the Lima 2027 Parapan American Games, the Carlos Moscoso stadium in Surquillo.
The meeting was headed by the president of the Peruvian Institute of Sport, Federico Tong; the National Director of Sports of Chile, Israel Castro; the municipal manager of Surquillo, Eduardo Bocanegra; representatives of the National Paralympic Association of Peru (ANPPERU) and ProInversion.
A DREAM COME TRUE
For the award-winning para-badminton player, Pilar Jauregui, member of the IPDs Athlete Support Program (PAD), having the first center specialized in para-sports is something necessary. I feel very happy, very pleased, how great that the private sector, the Municipality and the IPD are coming together to have our first Paralympic centre, it is the dream of every Paralympic athlete and it will be an important legacy for those who come after us.
Together with Pilar, the Pan American medallists Giuliana Poveda, Jesus Salva, Jenny Ventocilla, Denith Silva, Jackeline Burgos, Dunia Felices and Carlos Felipa shared their joy at this great news. Marco Huaytalla (for archery) was also present. On behalf of ANPPERU, Jose Gonzales-Mugaburu, the first Paralympic medallist in Toronto 1976, Mavi Tizon and Darinka Gustavson, Carlos Coquis from ProInversion and authorities from the Municipality of Surquillo participated.
CHILE SHARED ITS EXPERIENCE IN PARASPORTS
In the meeting room of Reducto Park No. 5 in Surquillo, the National Director of Sports of Chile, Israel Castro, shared his experiences regarding the para-sports infrastructure they currently have and how they managed to carry out this great project.
For his part, the president of the IPD stated: The principle of this project is that in the design we can collect the experience, recommendations and requests of the para-sportsmen themselves, their federations and the ANPPERU. It is a project in which from the beginning the voice of the para-sportsmen will be heard, which is ultimately to whom we owe our work.
In this strategic alliance, the Municipality provides the land, ProInversion is in charge of the approval process of the technical file until the signing of the contract, and it is our commitment as the Peruvian Sports Institute to turn it into a permanent center, under the ownership of the Municipality, but under the operation and maintenance of the IPD.
PERU AND CHILE
This is how the working visit by representatives of the National Sports Institute of Chile concluded. For two days, they presented their experience after the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, which left as an important legacy the first para-sports center in their country and the second in South America after Brazil.
In addition, they shared the strategies implemented in the field of communication and digital platforms.
