πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The Geophysical Institute of Peru IGP an agency attached to the Ministry of the Environment will be part of the Conference on Eastern Rim Outcrop Systems EBUS Past Present and Future Second International Conference on the System of Corrientes de Humboldt whose purpose is to bring together students post-doctoral researchers young scientists and world experts to understand review and synthesize the state of knowledge about the dynamics sensitivity vulnerability and resilience as well as its living resources in relation to climate variability climate change and extreme events. During the meeting that will take place from September 19 to 23 the scientific researchers Ivonne Montes Kobi Mosquera Alejandra Martnez and Ken Takahashi will share the research carried out at the IGP through 3 thematic axes that will deal with socio-ecological vulnerability to climate change and extreme events contributing specifically to session 27 called Towards the establishment of multidisciplinary integrated systems for observing and modeling the Earth system in EBUS . And it will also be participating in parallel events where the general public will be able to learn about the EBUS. The importance of caring for ecosystems EBUSEBUS ecosystems have complex interactions between physical and biogeochemical dynamics and are subject to significant spatial and temporal variability on scales from metersminutes to thousands of kilometerscenturies. The EBUS are thus sentinels of human-caused climate change which is of growing concern due to global warming and its impact on marine ecosystems. To do this the IGP has a research program in Atmosphere and Hydrosphere Sciences in which research is carried out on the climate system atmosphere ocean soil biosphere and cryosphere and the interaction between them. Especially it focuses on studying El Nio - Southern Oscillation one of the main modes of variability of the climate system it should be noted that El Nio causes negative impacts on the social and economic aspect in Peru. Within the framework of the collaboration agreement IGP-Tecnologa de Alimentos SA TASA and IGP-Institute of Research for Development IRD the project entitled Circulation of the Eastern Pacific from ARGO Floats SEPICAF for its acronym in English with which 9 ARGO-type oceanographic instruments were launched off the coast of Peru during 2021 which has allowed the expansion of the oceanographic observation system off the coast of Peru in near-real time providing periodic ocean information and with a coverage minimal but sufficient to support the monitoring activity of environmental conditions off the Peruvian coast and below the surface. In this sense for the IGP to be part of the organization of this international meeting and contribute with the knowledge generated in the various scientific sessions shows the commitment of our institution to continue doing Science to protect science to advance .
