📋 Tender Overview
Reniec recalled that the electoral roll for the 2026 general elections will close in April of next year. The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) revealed that in Ica there are 85,991 expired DNIs out of a total of 995,537 people identified with this document in the region.
Of the number of expired DNIs, 33,092 belong to adults and 52,899 to minors, while 45,993 correspond to men and 39,998 to women, according to statistics from the entity last August.
Before Ica, Lima is in first place, followed by Piura, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Cajamarca, Loreto, Junin, Cusco, Ancash, Arequipa, Callao, Puno, San Martin and Huanuco.
The Reniec indicated that there are 36,806,076 people identified with the DNI at the national level and abroad, of which 3,483,452 have expired identity documents.
Given this situation, the head of Reniec, Carmen Velarde, urged citizens to update their DNI. Carrying this document after the expiration date harms adults and minors not only in their identification but also in carrying out procedures, hence the importance of renewing it, she said.
Registry
The head of the institution recalled that Reniec will close, in April of next year, the electoral registry for the general elections of 2026.
They must update their real address on the DNI so that in the elections they vote in the places that correspond to them. It is also necessary for young people who have just turned 17 to change their yellow DNI and for families to register the death of a loved one with Reniec, she said.
How to renew my expired DNI?
According to law, the DNI of a Peruvian is valid for eight years. Once this period has elapsed, the renewal must be done.
If the process is carried out in person, citizens are reminded that the presentation of the photograph is no longer required, since the image is captured in the same Reniec office or agency where the DNI is processed. What is a requirement is the payment of the respective fee according to the type of DNI; S/. 30 if it is the conventional one (code 02121) or S/. 41 if it is the electronic one (code 00525).
