π Tender Overview
o Projects with Definitive Generation Concession, located in the south of the country, exceed 2,400 MW and consolidate the growth of solar energy in the country. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through the General Directorate of Energy Efficiency (DGEE), reported that Peru has a portfolio of 13 solar power plant projects for the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) in the state of Definitive Generation Concession, which will strengthen energy security and accelerate the transition to clean sources.
These initiatives, located mainly in the south of the country, add a projected capacity of 2,402 megawatts (MW) to the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) and represent an estimated investment of US$ 1,805.9 million.
Currently, Peru has 1,088 MW of installed solar capacity; and, with the progressive entry into operation of these projects, 3,490 MW will be reached by 2028, tripling the existing capacity, for the benefit of millions of Peruvians.
Arequipa leads solar development with 9 projects totaling 1,816 MW, consolidating itself as the main photovoltaic generation center in the country through the projects Central Solar Illa (396 MW), Central Solar Photovoltaica Sunny - Stage 2 (309 MW), and Central Sol de Verano (45.3 MW), among others.
The Moquegua region has 2 projects that together reach 322 MW, with initiatives such as the Hanaqpampa Solar Power Plant (140.8 MW) and the Lupi Solar Power Plant (181.2 MW); while Ica registers the projects of the Wayra Solar Photovoltaic Plant (94.2 MW) and the Macarena Photovoltaic Solar Plant (170 MW).
Meanwhile, Loreto will have 1 solar project of 130 MW, the Kuarachi Solar Power Plant, which will improve the energy supply in the Amazon through renewable sources.
In this regard, the DGEE highlighted that this territorial distribution allows taking advantage of the countrys high solar potential, since the development of projects in regions such as Arequipa, Moquegua and Ica responds to their optimal solar radiation conditions, which guarantees efficient and competitive generation.
The MINEM reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting the development of renewable energies, promoting investments that contribute to a cleaner, safer and decentralized energy system.
