In the Ucayali region, during the course of 2023, 111 water systems were intervened, a measure that helped improve this service in native communities and rural areas of the provinces of Coronel Portillo, Padre Abad, Atalaya and Purús. The number of interventions doubled compared to 2022.
The head of the Directorate of Housing and Sanitation, Víctor Estela, indicated that the Regional Government of Ucayali seeks that the population benefits from water and sewage services, within the framework of the fight against anemia and child malnutrition in children up to 3 years old.
Estela added that one of the challenges is to get Purús to reduce its rates of anemia. That is why communities such as San Bernardo and La Viña continue to intervene. "Purús is in the red when it comes to sanitation and basic services, and that's why it's our priority," he explained.
The Fund for the Encouragement of Performance and Achievement of Social Results (FED), of the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion, awarded second place to GORE-Ucayali last June for its arduous fight against anemia.
