Within the framework of the 2023 Restoration Operation, the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Environmental Matters of Madre de Dios carried out different operations against illegal mining between August 20 and 23 of this year.
On August 20 and 21 it was developed in the La Pampa sector - Buffer Zone of the Tambopata National Reserve, on the 22nd the diligence was carried out in the Castañal Sector - Boca Unión sector, Labyrinth district. Meanwhile, on the 23rd, the operation was in the Puerto Luz Native Community – Buffer Zone of the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve. Finally, on the 28th of the same month, fiscal personnel arrived at the Native Community of Barranco Chico in the district of Huepetuhe, province of Manu, where they found an area where the gold mineral extraction activity was being developed without having the corresponding authorizations.
In these illegal camps, supplies and machinery used for the illicit activity were found. Among the items found are engines, fuel, pulleys, motor pumps, internet and satellite antennas, among others. According to law, the interdiction (destruction) of everything seized was ordered.
Also, according to the National Police, everything destroyed has a value of more than 9 million.
