The Comptroller General of the Republic identified a serious structural deterioration in the Palpa and La Huaca - Tambillo bridges, located in the province of Huaral. This situation increases the risk of collapse and, with it, the probability of accidents and possible human losses.
According to the Official Orientation Report No. 3079-2025-CG/GRLP-SOO, the Palpa Red Bridge, whose conservation is in charge of the Regional Government of Lima Provinces, presents an advanced deterioration in its metal structure, with a strong corrosion in the railings. In addition, one of the concrete pillars, which supports the bridge board, shows undercut and inclination, which compromises its function, as well as other indications of risk.
This bridge is part of the EMP. LM-108, essential way for the connection between Huaral and the Palpa populated center. However, despite its critical status it was verified that the infrastructure was still in daily use of pedestrians and vehicles.
The Comptroller also warned that, although there are official documents that support the need to rebuild the bridge, the actions taken for repair have been insufficient. To date, the Regional Government of Lima is responsible for executing the Reconstruction Project of section 1-516-Puente Red Palpa, which connects Huaral with Palpa, in the district of Aucallama, province of Huaral. However, although the financing has already been approved, the project has not advanced.
In turn, in the Official Orientation Report No. 3442-2025-CG/GRLP-SOO, it is indicated that the La Huaca-Tambillo bridge, under maintenance of the Provincial Municipality of Huaral, presents a high level of corrosion in its metal structure, with an abundant oxide in the side railings and sinking in an intermediate pillar, which further compromises its stability. Despite the obvious risk, citizens continue to use the bridge daily exposing themselves to a constant danger.
The results of the report were sent to the Regional Government of Lima and the Provincial Municipality of Huaral to adopt the necessary corrective measures within the framework of their powers and responsibilities.
