Reniec recalled that the electoral roll for the 2026 general elections will close in April of next year. The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) revealed that in Ayacucho there are 52,369 expired DNIs out of a total of 718,473 people identified with this document in the region.
Of the number of expired DNIs, 22,925 belong to adults and 29,444 to minors, while 28,506 correspond to men and 23,863 to women, according to statistics from the entity last August.
Before Ayacucho are Lima, in first place, followed by Piura, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Loreto, Junin, Cusco, Ancash and Arequipa. Also, Callao, Puno, San Martin, Huanuco, Ica, Ucayali and Amazonas.
The Reniec indicated that there are 36,806,076 people identified with the DNI at the national level and abroad, of which 3,483,452 have an expired identity document.
Given this situation, the head of the Reniec, Carmen Velarde, urged citizens to update their DNI. Carrying this document after the expiration date harms adults and minors not only in their identification but also in carrying out procedures, which is why it is important to renew it, she said.

The head of the institution recalled that the Reniec will close, in April of next year, the electoral registry for the general elections of 2026.

How do I renew my expired ID?
According to law, a Peruvians ID is valid for eight years. Once this period has elapsed, the renewal must be done.
If the process is done in person, citizens are reminded that the presentation of the photograph is no longer required, since the image is captured in the same Reniec office or agency where the ID is processed. What is a requirement is the payment of the respective fee according to the type of ID; S/. 30 if it is the conventional one (code 02121) or S/. 41 if it is the electronic one (code 00525).
