The President of the Council of Ministers, Alberto Otarola Penaranda, highlighted the work of the Armed Forces in the defense of the country and the protection of the population, and reaffirmed the Government's commitment to renew the Army's engineering battalions, in order to improve its response to emergencies.
"The Armed Forces were on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the emergencies caused by Cyclone Yaku, and will be again in the face of the global El Niño phenomenon. That is why we are strengthening the Army's engineering battalions so that they respond effectively to emergencies," said the head of the Ministerial Cabinet.
During the activity, the head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers was accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chávez Cresta, and the head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Manuel Gómez de la Torre.
It was also attended by the general commanders of the armed institutes and the National Police of Peru; the district mayors of San Borja, Marco Alvarez Vargas, and San Isidro, Nancy Vizurraga Torrejón, and the president of Peru Runners, Gonzalo Rodriguez Larrain.
