Osiptel More Than Tender

📄 Tender ID: 529755922 📅 Published: 05 Mar 2026

📋 Tender Overview

Growth was driven by the advance of fiber optics which, at the end of 2025, registered 3.61 million connections.
The expansion of fiber optics is allowing, compared to other means of access, companies to offer greater browsing speed and stability for fixed internet service. At the end of 2025, connections with download speeds equal to or greater than 200 megabits per second (Mbps) represented more than 79% of the national total, reported the Private Investment Supervisory Body in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL).

According to the information reported by the operating companies to OSIPTEL, 2.91 million connections have contracted download speeds greater than 200 Mbps and less than 1000 Mbps; Meanwhile, connections with contracted download speeds greater than or equal to 1000 Mbps totaled 561,009 at the end of 2025.

This migration towards higher browsing speeds without substantive changes in rates contributes to the improvement of consumer well-being, who is increasingly demanding and interested in having an efficient and fast service that guarantees optimal access for uses such as teleworking, communication, electronic commerce, social networks, digital entertainment and other matters such as artificial intelligence.

Expanding fiber optics

According to the information published in the PUNKU computer tool (https://punku.osiptel.gob.pe/), at the end of 2025, Peru reported 4.38 million fixed internet connections, 82.47% of which used fiber optics (3.61 million). Thus, in just one year, the number of connections to this technology grew 20.86% compared to the figures reported in 2024 (2.99 million).

Precisely, the unstoppable advance of fiber optics has marked the decline in the number of connections through coaxial cable, which until 2022 was the predominant means of access throughout the country. In this way, at the end of 2025, the connections offered via coaxial cable (628,651) suffered a decrease of 28.92% compared to the figures reported in 2024 (884,442).

The increased deployment of fiber optic networks constitutes a structural change in the infrastructure that supports the digital economy. The growth of fixed internet connections provided through fiber optics not only contributes to closing the access gap to the aforementioned service, but also guarantees a high-performance connection.

This trend is not only observed in Lima, but also in the regions of the country, where the presence of small and medium-sized local operators contributes to the growth of concrete opportunities for higher quality virtual education, telemedicine, regional e-commerce, more efficient digital public services and new possibilities for local enterprises.

In this way, high-speed connectivity integrates digital markets, accelerates their connection, increases the productivity of micro and small businesses, expands access to financial services and improves the countrys ability to insert itself into the global digital economy.
