Rostelecom successfully completed repair work on the underwater fiber-optic communication line (FOCL) Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky - Anadyr and resumed the provision of telecom services in full on the evening of July 16, 2026.
Damage to a sea cable in the Bering Sea was discovered at a depth of 155 meters in the area of Cape Navarin (434 km from Anadyr). Its cause was presumably the external impact of gear or the anchor of a fishing ship. The work was carried out over three days and eight hours with the involvement of a specialized vessel and a specialized team from the BULAT company (part of the Rostelecom Group of Companies). It was necessary to replace about 800 meters of cable with the installation of two couplings. As a result, the performance and technical parameters of the fiber-optic communication line were completely restored.
Currently, in Anadyr and Coal Mines, telecommunications services are provided to private and corporate clients, including mobile operators, in full. Online services and applications operate without restrictions on data transfer speed. For stable operation of digital services, users are recommended to restart the router and Wink TV set-top box.
We would like to remind you that in 2023 and 2024, at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky-Anadyr FOCL, it was already necessary to repair damage caused by external influences on the sea cable. The third case suggests that seafarers violated the requirements of the Rules for the Protection of Communication Lines and Facilities of the Russian Federation when using an anchor and carrying out fishing and other activities in the protection zone of the PVOLS. Rostelecom strongly emphasizes the importance of compliance with current legislation to ensure the safety of communication lines.
