π Tender Overview
Budapest October 30 2026 - From November 2 the increased surcharge for intercity rail HEV and bus transport will increase from HUF 25000 to HUF 30000.The MAV group asks its passengers to exchange their tickets and - if necessary for the journey - their seat tickets before boarding from stations belonging to the mandatory ticket collection zone introduced in the suburbs of Budapest.The rule is simple: first ticket then boarding.
At the affected stations and stops you can board any train only with a ticket purchased in advance.In the absence of a ticket an additional fee of HUF 25000 must be paid in addition to the fare reimbursement which was raised at the time of inspection and HUF 30000 from November 2.With the same rates a surcharge can be imposed in the event of violating the travel conditions for example smoking on board or at the station or in the case of dirtying the vehicles.For bus travel the amount of the surcharge paid on the spot or within three working days as well as for HEV within two working days will also increase from HUF 12000 to HUF 15000.
The mandatory ticket pickup rule which was introduced two years ago with a long grace period affects all stations and stops on the following line sections in the suburbs of Budapest:
the Southern and Eastern railway stations and Gyor
Nyugati railway station Rakos and Esztergom
the South Railway Station Kobanya-Kispest and Szekesfehervar
the Southern and Pusztaszabolcs
the West and Room
the Western and Veresegyhaz Vac
the Eastern and Sixty
the Nyugati and Cegled Szolnok
the Keleti and Nagykata also
between Nyugati and Pestszentimre.
The MAV group recommends that passengers check:
whether a ticket valid for the entire route has been redeemed;
whether a seat ticket is required;
whether the ticket and/or seat ticket is for the correct train and time;
whether the ticket or pass is valid for the entire duration of the trip.
If there is no ticket machine or ticket office at the station the ticket can also be purchased online in the MAVPlusz mobile application or at www.jegy.mav.hu.However it is important that the purchase must be made before take-off.
Boarding without a ticket incurs significant additional costs
A passenger boarding the train without a ticket in the mandatory ticket collection zone can still buy a ticket or a seat ticket by paying a HUF 25000 surcharge.The surcharge on the spot or within thirty days is currently HUF 25000 but will rise to HUF 30000 from November 2.Of course the established fare must also be paid.The HUF 50000 surcharge required for payments made after thirty days will not change.
The change in surcharges does not only affect the mandatory pre-purchase zone
From November 2 the surcharge will increase from HUF 25000 to HUF 30000 on all intercity railway HEV and bus routes.This surcharge payment obligation must be taken into account for example in the event of unauthorized use of a discount in the event of payment of the surcharge imposed on the train or intercity bus after 3 working days or after 2 working days on the HEV as well as in case of violation of the travel conditions (violation of the smoking ban dirtying of the vehicle etc.)
Those who pay the surcharge on the scheduled Volan flights on the spot or within 3 working days on the HEV on the spot or within 2 working days will only have to pay HUF 15000 instead of HUF 30000 from November 2.
In the case of the HEV the subsequent presentation fee for the pass purchased on the day of the surcharge will also increase from HUF 6500 to HUF 7500.
It doesnt change but its good to know
The surcharges on tram-train services do not change.
The surcharge can be reduced to the fee for the subsequent presentation (to HUF 2600 on the train HUF 2500 on the bus) if the passenger presents at the cash desk within fifteen days the ticket or pass valid for the given trip at the time of the inspection - including the pass purchased on the day of the trip - or a travel card.
The obligation to purchase tickets in advance also applies to persons with disabilities traveling unaccompanied.
In the first nine months of the year our colleagues imposed surcharges on HEV flights in 5300 cases which generated nearly HUF 53.5 million in revenue.In this period we recorded nearly 14700 cases of surcharges on trains and more than 14500 on buses the surcharge revenue was HUF 88.5 million on railways and HUF 97 million on buses.The most common reasons for surcharges include the absence of a ticket or pass failure to provide proof of entitlement to a discount and if the passenger cannot prove that the ticket or pass is his or her own.However these can be easily remedied - with a little care you can avoid significant additional expenses
