📋 Tender Overview
The Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion appoints a committee to assess measures to strengthen protection against night and unaccompanied work for workers in retail trade. We want a safe serious and organised working life where workers are taken care of. We are now appointing a committee to assess whether employees in the retail trade who work at night and alone are adequately protected by the Working Environment Act says Minister of Labour and Social Inclusion Marte Mjs Persen. The general rule is that night work i.e. work between 21 pm and 06 am is prohibited unless the nature of the work makes it necessary. For example production and social considerations may be the reason why night work is necessary. After the Opening Hours Act was repealed in 2003 there are no restrictions on the right to work at retail outlets in the retail trade in the evening and night on weekdays.Assessing the regulationsThe purpose of this committee is not to deal with opening hours provisions but to assess the situation for employees in light of what we know about the risk to the working environment and health in connection with night and unaccompanied work. The committee shall map the scope and content of night work Sunday and public holiday work and solo work in retail trade. It should also look at work as closely linked to the retail trade such as picking goods and delivering goods to customers.Against this background the committee shall assess whether there is a need for amendments to regulations or other measures to strengthen workers protection and submit proposals in accordance with this. The employee and employer organisations in retail trade have been invited to participate in the committee. The committee is a follow-up of a decision in the Storting and will be chaired by Ingrid Finboe Svendsen. It is scheduled to submit its report by June 2024.
