πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

The humanitarian community in Niger, like the rest of the world, is today celebrating the 2023 edition of World Humanitarian Day (WHD) in a context of humanitarian crisis marked by the persistence of insecurity in fragile areas due to the activities of non-State armed groups, combined with the increase in the price of cereals and basic necessities on the markets, the occurrence of new floods and the continuation of forced population displacements in the country, to which has been added a political crisis since July 26, 2023.

The heavy rains recorded since July 2023 across the country continue to cause flooding with disastrous consequences on people and their livelihoods.
All regions of the country are affected, particularly the regions of Maradi, TillabΓ©ri and Tahoua.
According to the Ministry of Humanitarian Action and Disaster Management (MAH/GC), as of August 14, 2023, the floods have affected 53,803 people (6,462 households) across the country. There are 18 people killed, 30 others injured, 4,728 houses collapsed.

In response, and in accordance with the national three-year emergency plan (2023-2025) for floods, the government has already mobilized some 4,240 tons of cereals in addition to the efforts of partners whose capacities are being assessed.

This year's theme for World Humanitarian Day is 'WhateverHappens' humanitarians pledge to continue to stand in solidarity with the communities they serve, whoever they are, wherever they are, across the world. strict respect for the principles guiding humanitarian action.

Thus, despite the crisis that Niger has been going through since July 26, 2023, the United Nations and humanitarian partners continue to support vulnerable populations affected by various shocks.

"The United Nations reiterates its appeal to all partners to provide more support for humanitarian operations in Niger, which are only 39% funded to date," said Louise Aubin, Humanitarian Coordinator.

In 2023, before the political crisis, Niger had 4.3 million people in humanitarian need with 3.3 million in severe acute food crisis; the vast majority of whom are women and children.
