More space for travelers NS will start in August with the construction of passenger facilities, such as the design of a new Public Transport Service Shop and an attractive range of shops for travelers. Remco Dijkmans, NS Stations project manager: Anyone who takes the train or metro from Amsterdam Zuid station enters the station via the current passenger passage (Minervapassage). Many commuters will agree that this passage has not been designed for the number of travelers for a long time. With the opening of the Brittenpassage on the west side of the station, train and metro travelers will finally have a hypermodern station with allure and associated passenger facilities in the coming years. Together with Zuidasdok, we are proud of this. milestone for travelers. Huge jobProject manager Jelger Vos of Zuidasdok: We are extremely proud of this milestone. Working on this station is like working on a postage stamp, where the store has to remain open as much as possible. To build the new passenger passage, the roof was first built in several phases in recent years. At various times, the A10 South and metro and train tracks had to be temporarily removed to allow the roof parts weighing millions of kilos to be moved into place. Only then could the builders start excavating the passenger tunnel. Last year was all about finishing (pouring concrete, installing escalators and lifts and building natural stone walls), new platform roofs were installed and a number of old platform roofs have already been removed. MinervapassageTo be able to handle the growing number of travelers in the future, the Minervapassage will be significantly upgraded over the next 3 years. Zuidasdok will start this immediately as soon as the Brittenpassage is open. The Minerva passage will be wider (currently 12 meters, soon 40 meters) and higher (currently 2.5 meters under the metro tracks, soon more than 4 meters). The entrance gates will be located at the entrances to the platforms, so the passage itself remains an open connection between the north and south of Zuidas. Ultimately, Amsterdam Zuid station will become a high-quality transport hub where the (international) train, metro, tram, bus and bicycle come together.ZuidasdokZuidasdok is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Netherlands.
