NS introduces something new for OV-fiets users: OV-fiets trip information in the NS app. This gives travelers live insight into the status of their public transport bicycle ride. They can see how long they rent the bicycle for, whether the bicycle is properly locked and what the associated costs are. This gives travelers more security at the end of the journey.
The new electronic OV bicycle lock, which works with the OV chip card, has recently presented some challenges. The new system required travelers to lock their bicycles when returning them. In contrast to the old lock where the key had to remain in the bicycle. This was not always well thought of. This sometimes led to situations in which a bicycle was left open and was taken by the next user. Along the way, he discovered that the lock no longer opens because it was still linked to another OV chip card. The previous renter who had not properly locked the bicycle will then be fined. This caused a lot of confusion, complaints and unjustified fines. NS has improved both the internal process and the options for travelers. For example, NS can now more easily correct when fines have been wrongly imposed. Before the fine is actually collected. And with the addition of the OV-fiets function in the NS app, travelers now have a real-time view of their bicycle rental and it is clearly indicated whether the rental has been properly concluded.
