The past week was all about the insertion of the new Vierpaardjes underpass in Venlo. On Thursday evening, April 18, this underpass was pushed into place. A very intensive and precise, but successful job.
Understanding and trust
Alderman Erwin Boom: "Last weekend was the most nuisance to be expected. Fortunately, everything went very well and according to plan. I would especially like to thank the people living in the immediate vicinity for their understanding and trust. Everything that happens and can be seen can only be seen once every few years and can therefore count on extraordinary interest from many residents. So be sure to take a look at the spectators' stand on the Broekestraat to see this with your own eyes."
Unique event
Many local residents took a look at this rather unique event. Two tunnels, with a combined weight of 300 tonnes, are retracted at ten metres per hour. Finally, after 4.5 hours, the tunnel boxes were in place. Until 2025, we will continue to work on the construction of the tunnel that will ensure a safer, more reliable and more accessible Venlo, where cyclists and pedestrians can travel through the area separately from fast traffic and emergency services.
Regional director Dimitri Kruik explains: "Step by step, the impressive construction of the tunnel is being realised. A work with a lot of impact in the middle of Venlo, which can only take place through good cooperation with all parties."
Train traffic
After it has been pushed into the tunnel, the track can be rebuilt. From Monday 22 April, trains will be able to run again between Venlo and Roermond. From 25 April, trains will run again from Venlo to Mönchengladbach and Dusseldorf.
